Online Webinar: BUILD_ME: How to calculate the energy performance of buildings in the Arab Region? – An introduction to the BEP Tool

In the framework of the Arab Energy Efficiency Day 2023, the #BUILD_ME project lead partner #Guidehouse conducted a virtual training titled: "How to calculate the energy performance of buildings in the Arab Region? - The introduction of the BEP tool”, in collaboration with Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (#RCREEE) represented by Dr. Jauad El Kharraz and the League of Arab States represented (#LAS) by HE Eng. Jamila Matar which was held on the 22nd of May 2023.

This training hosted more than 250 experts from the Arab region, representing national authorities focusing on energy efficient buildings, architects, engineers and sustainable energy experts. The participants learnt the most relevant energy efficiency and renewable energy measures specific for buildings in the Arab region and get introduced to the Building Energy Performance (BEP) tool.

As part of the BUILD_ME project: “Accelerating 0-emission building sector ambitions in the MENA region”, Riadh Bhar provided a brief introduction of the BUILD_ME project as well as a general introduction of the relevance of Energy Efficiency in Buildings in the MENA region. Followed by a presentation of a selection of the most relevant energy efficiency measures in the MENA region through a selected demonstration project in the MENA region and Germany.

In the second part, an introduction to the Building Energy Performance (BEP) Tool followed by a high-level understanding of the BEP tool was discussed with the participants. A walk through within the tool as well as a case study was demonstrated.

Finally, some new features of the BEP tool were announced through the training such as possibility to define own baseline, visualization of the useful energy demand of the building, and possibility to download the Energy Performance Certificate (EPC).

The BUILD_ME project is financed by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) The project is a promising step towards achieving highly efficient buildings in the MENA region with collaboration with Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC), Integrated Development Group (IDG), Royal Scientific Society in Jordan (RSS), Lebanese Center for Energy Conservation (LCEC) and the Intergovernmental Partner (RCREEE). The project began in October 2016 and is now in its 3rd phase ending in March 2025.
